Rurrenabaque

Swimming with pink river dolphins: check.

Watching a flock of toucans pass overhead at sunset: check.

Feeding a wild alligator spaghetti and meat sauce: check.

Hiding the mayonnaise from smart howler monkeys in the kitchen: check.

Flying between jagged mountain peaks higher than the plane: check.

Just back from a week in Rurrenabaque, the self-proclaimed "touristic jewel of the Beni Department of Bolivia," and I don't know what to say first... it was like another world only 200km north of La Paz but different in every way. Hot, humid, low elevation, lots of fruit, lots of green, big rivers, crazy wildlife, friendly people, mototaxis, dugout canoes, mosquitos and mosquito nets...

Forgot my camera, so will have to wait until some English friends I met on the trip send me their photos... until then, just imagine dolphins, but pink, swimming in circles around you in the most beautiful jungle lagoon ever, blowing air through their blowholes and splashing playfully while macaws fly overhead and big toothy gators bask in the reeds near the shore, blinking slowly in the sunshine.
